You know the Magic Kingdom like it is your own house- better yet, your own room. You know where the Coca Cola Stand is. You know where the Churros Stand is. And it comes the day where you have to visit Disneyland. And you get there and… Wait… There’s something wrong here… Where are the things you are so familiar with?
Welcome to Stratoblog’s new series, PARK COMPARISONS, where I’ll show everyone how different are each lands on Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom and Disneyland’s Magic Kingdom. Both parks have the same names, but are they the same on the layout? Let’s find out! Today, we will begin with Tomorrowland!
Let’s begin, shall we?
First of all, let’s start with the Tomorrowland Transit authority. It’s not on the Disneyland map, as you can see, but imagine a circle around the Observatron or whatever the heck it is called, located on the center of the Disneyland map, and imagine it following almost the same track as our good ol’ Tomorrowland Transit Authority. However, as you can see, there is nothing on the entrance way to the Astro Orbiter of Walt Disney World. In Disneyland, there is the Astro Orbitor. Now on the place where it should be, there is the Observatron. Remember: even though the Peoplemover tracks are not used anymore, they still exist on the parks, laying around.
Moving on to the Stitche’s Great Escape show building and the Carousel of Progress. Well, on Disneyland, they existed, near Space Mountain, but they have been transformed into the Red Rocket’s Pizza Port restaurant. As for the Carousel, see that double level building, on the right side of the Disneyland map? Well, that was the former place of the Carousel of Progress and America Sings, and its now the place for Innoventions.
Another interesting thing you should notice is that there is no Laugh Floor! That’s because back when the Rocket Rods replaced the Peoplemover, the queue was so long that it used the Circlevision theater. So what happened to the Circlevision theater after the Rocket Rods went kablam and got closed? Well, the Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin travelled coasts and landed on that location. So that’s an attraction that replaced two attractions and then later got transformed into one. Good thinking, Team Disney Anaheim!
Talking about Buzz Lightyear, the location that it occupies on Walt Disney World is the equivalent of where the Adventure Through Inner Space was before on Disneyland. What happened is that when Walt Disney World opened, its Tomorrowland was an equivalent copy of Disneyland’s Tomorrowland… Except for the attractions. Tomorrowland didn’t had enough space for an Omnimover ride just like Adventure Through Inner Space (even though it hadn’t open), so if you had wings opened on that place. It had the famous screen method, which used screens and movies to talk about the world. That later got transported to EPCOT and became El Rio del Tiempo, now Gran Fiesta Tour.
Lets go back to Adventure Through Inner Space- we know it isn’t there anymore. Now, in it’s place, there is Star Tours. Sounds weird, huh? An attraction WDW has on Hollywood Studios is on Tomorrowland on Disneyland. They must have imported it from us! Hahahaha- well no. We imported from them, its just that the space Star Tours would get was being occupied by Delta Dreamflight, and the MGM Studios needed attractions to bring people in.
Talking about importing attractions, now there is one thing that the good ol’ Disneyland imported from us, The Magic Eye Theater. You can either go see my latest INSIDE DISNEY about the Magic Eye Theater or just read this: apparently, there was a Space Stage. This Space Stage was an space (ha!) that could be used better, so they decided to build the Magic Eye Theater there, which is currently hosting Captain EO.
Now have we answered everything? Laugh Floor, check! Stitch, check! TTA, check! Astro Orbiter, check! Buzz Lightyear, check! Thanks for rea- What is that you say? I forgot Autopia? Oh silly me.
Autopia is pratically at the same place as Tomorrowland’s Indy Speedway. The only difference between both versions is that the Disneyland version crosses with the monorail track, which is an attraction rather than an transportation vehicle and passes over the Submarine Voyage lagoon, something that we too had, but was removed and replace by Pooh’s Playful Spot.
And that’s it! Thank you for reading this first part of PARK COMPARISONS. Next time I join you in this series, we are going to check New Orleans Square and Liberty Square. See ya real soon!
